HMS Eurydice, Naval History & Maritime Salvage. A Treen Novelty Book Shaped Desk Weight, Detailed with a Stricken Ship. Inscribed 'Made from Part of the Fore Top Mast of HMS Eurydice, Foundered of Dunose (sic) I.W, March 24 1878'. On 6 March 1878, Eurydice Departed the West Indies for Portsmouth. Eighteen Days Later she Reached Sandown Bay off the Isle of Wight. She was Caught in a Snowstorm off Dunnose Headland, Capsizing and Sinking, with the Loss of over 300 Hands in 20 Metres of Water. Only Two Men Survived from the Ship. Later, in 1878, She was Refloated and Towed to HM Dockyard Portsmouth where she was Broken Up.
HMS Euryidce was a 26 gun Corvette, built at HM Dockyard Portrsmouth and launched in 1843. She originally saw service with the North American and West Indies station before serving in the White Sea, during the Crimean War.
