A vintage Moorcroft vase in the Anemone pattern.
The height of the vase is 89mm.
The anemone pattern was first designed by William Moorcroft in 1938 and then redrawn by Walter Moorcroft in 1975. Walter Moorcroft retired in 1987 but in 1988 he was invited to redraw the original design, and the new range was issued in 1989.
Regarding age, it can be difficult to assess with absolute certainty as some production runs could be quite long, and it was not until 1990 that Moorcroft began using year cyphers to show when an item was actually made. As there is no year cypher on the vase the latest possible date of manufacture would be c1989.
The style and positioning of the backstamps on the base of this vase suggest a date range c1949 to 1986 and hence of genuine vintage age.
Nb while the backstamps are somewhat illegible/incomplete in parts the vase is clearly Moorcroft.
The vase has been closely inspected and assessed as in excellent condition. The floral design on the dark blue ground makes for an attractive item which should fit in well with many a collection of vintage Moorcroft pottery.
This Moorcroft vintage Anemone vase is available by online order or by visiting the Antiques Centre in York. If planning to visit the Centre the vase, along with other pieces of Moorcroft pottery, can be found in Cabinet 138 which is situated on the Lower Ground Floor.
