A Moorcroft mid size vintage vase in the Clematis pattern by Walter Moorcroft.
With a height of 14.70cm (5.78 inch) a rotund shape and a weight 0.49kg the vase has an impressive presence.
The year an item was actually made can be difficult to assess with absolute certainty as it was not until 1990 that Moorcroft began using year cyphers to show the actual year of manufacture. This vase however has the Royal Appointment label of the type used from 1953 to 1978
The clematis pattern was first designed by William Moorcroft c1939 and initially only used on a few pieces. The pattern was developed into a full range by Walter Moorcroft from 1946 to 1975. Except for special orders production of the pattern ceased in 1983. This detail above fits in nicely with the label date information and the vase is clearly of genuine vintage age.
Condition: Vintage items may have small imperfections and/or idiosyncrasies due to the manufacturing processes of the day, usage perhaps over many years and how an item has been stored but any significant issues will always be highlighted in the description.
This vase has been closely inspected and assessed as in excellent vintage condition. The base is within approximately 1mm of level so perhaps appropriate to display on a doily or similar. There is a very modest amount of crazing i.e. only the faint 'micro' crazing normally present on Moorcroft vases of this age.
The Clematis design featuring pink and purple floral shades on the dark blue/green tone ground makes for a highly attractive item which should prove a worthy addition to many a collection of vintage Moorcroft pottery.
Given the size of the vase it may of course be suitable to display as a stand alone item as well as part of a collection.
This vintage Moorcroft vase in the Clematis pattern is available by online order only however if visiting the Antiques Centre in York please visit Cabinet 138 situated on the Lower Ground Floor to view other examples of Moorcroft pottery from early vintage pieces to more modern items.
