A vintage boxed Moorcroft pin dish in the Finches design by Sally Tuffin.
The diameter is 117mm and the height 19mm.
The Finches design on a blue ground was introduced in 1988. From 1990 Moorcroft started to introduce symbols i.e. year cyphers on the base of their pottery to show when an item was actually made. As there is no year cypher on this pin dish the age can reasonably be assessed as 1988 to 1989 and hence a genuine vintage piece.
Sally Tuffin was already a recognised designer when she joined Moorcroft in 1986 and took over the full responsibility for design following Walter Moorcroft's retirement in 1987. She was in fact only the third designer, after William and Walter Moorcroft, since the company began.
The detail contained within this design is certainly worthy of special note. There is a finch against a background of berries, fruit (understood to be pomegranate) and leaves. The eye is easily drawn into the scene where the skills of the tube liner and painter can be admired as well as the those of the designer. Sally Tuffin designs are now very collectable.
This pin dish has been closely inspected and the upper surface is in excellent condition. The base rim has a couple of small sections which show a little roughness to the touch but which are not visible when on display. Overall the pin dish has been assessed as in a good vintage condition. The box itself is in excellent vintage condition.
