A Moorcroft vintage oval shallow bowl in the Hibiscus pattern by Walter Moorcroft.
The length (at the rim) is 230mm (9.05inch), the width (at the rim) 133mm (5.23inch) and the height 49mm (1.92inch).
The hibiscus pattern has been one of Moorcroft's most enduring designs with a number of developments over the years. Originally drawn by Walter Moorcroft c1949 developments included changes in the early 1960's, the coral hibiscus pattern been introduced in 1968 and further designs following on for some years.
Regarding age, it can be difficult to assess with absolute certainty as some production runs could be quite long, and it was not until 1990 that Moorcroft began using year cyphers to show when an item was actually made.
With this bowl however the style and positioning of the impressed MOORCROFT and MADE IN ENGLAND stamps on the base suggest a date range c1949 to 1986
The bowl is clearly of genuine vintage age.
This item has been closely inspected and assessed as in excellent vintage condition.
The shape appears much rarer than the more often seen circular styles, plus the yellow tone ground is similarly a rarer option. An attractive combination which should make the bowl a worthy addition to many a collection of vintage Moorcroft pottery.
Of course the physical size means it may also be suitable to display as a stand alone specimen piece, perhaps in an entrance hall or reception room.
Available by ordering online only however if visiting the Antiques Centre in York please visit Cabinet 138 situated on the Lower Ground Floor where a selection of Moorcroft Pottery from early vintage pieces to more modern times can be viewed.
