A Moorcroft vintage oval shallow bowl in the Hibiscus pattern by Walter Moorcroft.
The length (at the rim) is 233mm (9.17inch), the width (at the rim) 134mm (5.27inch) and the height 49mm (1.92inch).
Regarding age, it can be difficult to assess with absolute certainty as some production runs could be quite long, and it was not until 1990 that Moorcroft began using year cyphers to show when an item was actually made.
With this bowl however the style of the MOORCROFT and MADE IN ENGLAND stamps on the base suggest a date range c1949 to 1986
To narrow this down further the original hibiscus pattern was designed by Walter Moorcroft in 1949 and then redrawn from 1960. The coral hibiscus pattern originally from 1968 was also designed by Walter Moorcroft. Once introduced designs could of course be further developed over time. Given that the design featured here is a coral hibiscus pattern it would be reasonable to assess the age of the bowl as c1970's to mid 1980's.
There is also what looks like the remnants of a paper label on the base. For items of this period a paper label could be the 'Potters To The Late Queen Mary' paper label, and as this label was used from 1953 to 1978 it would fit in with the date assessment above.
The bowl is clearly of genuine vintage age.
This item has been closely inspected and assessed as in excellent vintage condition.
The shape appears much rarer than the more often seen circular styles and the bright colours on the dark green ground make for an attractive item, which together should make the bowl a worthy addition to many a collection of vintage Moorcroft pottery.
Of course the physical size may also make it ideal to display as a stand alone specimen piece, perhaps in an entrance hall or reception room.
