A massively rare to find large section of a Syro Hittite fertility idol ,of the goddess Astarte.
This item which dates to circa 1800 -1200 BC, is in the form of a bird headed figure with helmet and studded belt.
They were used as votive offerings to the gods and were ritually broken and deposited in small pits.
With a small piece of old collection restoration to the head plume, the only period loss is to the lower legs.
It has been mounted on a wooden base as seen which comes with an old collection perspex cover..
They are rare to find in any condition and are seldom as complete as this.
Old collection from the 1970 -1980s.
Size Actual.17.5 CM in Height plus Base.
As with all of my antiquities and coins this item comes complete with a certificate of authenticity.
