This cup is an 18th century example of the Sudbury Prize, established by John Sudbury (1604 - 1684). He was the Dean of Durham and a benfactor of Emmanuel College, Cambridge. This cup was presented as the 1746 Sudbury Prize to George Donston (1723 - 1784). George was educated at Eton College, beofre entering Emmanuel College in 1742. In good condition high surface wear all over. One split showing on the interior at the junction of the top of one handle joining the body. The stepped circular foot with possible split repair on the seam. Free of dents and creases.
