A vintage Moorcroft vase in the Hibiscus pattern by Walter Moorcroft.
The height is 104mm.
An attractive design on the somewhat rarer yellow tone ground.
The hibiscus pattern has been one of Moorcroft's most enduring designs with a number of developments over the years. Originally drawn by Walter Moorcroft c1949 developments included changes in the early 1960's, the coral hibiscus pattern been introduced in 1968 and further designs following on for some years.
With this bowl the style of the impressed MOORCROFT and MADE IN ENGLAND stamps on the base suggest a date range c1949 to 1986 and hence clearly of genuine vintage age.
The vase has been closely inspected and assessed as in very good vintage condition.
There is the faint crazing often present on these older pieces of Moorcroft pottery. Interestingly, on their website Moorcroft advise their pottery is made from porous earthenware and crazing is just part of the normal ageing process. They talk about how this natural crazing is used by antiques salerooms to help establish the vintage of an item, and identify any restoration.
This vintage Moorcroft hibiscus vase is available by online order only. If planning to visit the Antiques Centre in York other pieces of Moorcroft pottery can be also be viewed in Cabinet 138 situated on the lower ground floor.
