A beautiful and substantial vintage sterling silver nurses’ belt buckle, dating to 1977, the year of Queen Elizabeth II’s Silver Jubilee.
This traditional two-piece nurses’ buckle is beautifully fashioned with an elaborate symmetrical scrolling foliate and acanthus design, worked in high relief with fine beaded and engraved detailing. The ornate design has wonderful depth and character and is particularly striking when worn.
The reverse retains the original belt loops and fastening and is fully hallmarked for Sheffield 1977, including the special Queen Elizabeth II Silver Jubilee commemorative hallmark.
Nurses’ buckles were traditionally worn with formal nursing uniforms, making this a lovely piece of British nursing history, as well as an attractive and highly wearable piece of vintage silver. The 1977 Jubilee hallmark gives this particular example an additional commemorative and collectable interest.
